The first edition can be identified by the following points: Copyright page has number line "1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2" with "2010 2011 2012". Boards are blue cloth with gold lettering on the spine. Dust jacket has three reviews on the back - by Don Lee, Mary Caponegro, and Stuart Dybek.

The publisher has confirmed that there were 8,000 copies produced in the first printing.

Lord of Misrule won the National Book Award.
